The performance metrics you see on your dashboard (like song placements and new fans) reflect the value of free promotion your music receives from Thematic creators. These creators feature your songs in their content in exchange for promotion, not for revenue, which is why this is considered Earned Media Value (EMV).
On the other hand, your YouTube Earnings come from videos posted by users without valid licenses who use your music. These earnings are collected and paid out through YouTube’s Content ID system.
Because EMV represents estimated marketing value and YouTube Earnings represent actual revenue collected, the two figures will often differ.
