What happens when a song expires?

An expired song is a song that is no longer available on Thematic for new downloads or new video placements.

Thematic periodically expires songs to keep our music library fresh and up to date. When a song expires, it means you can no longer download it or use it in new videos.

What does this mean for you?

  • Videos you’ve already posted using the expired song will remain safe - there’s no need to edit or remove the song from those videos.

  • You can only use the expired song in new videos if you upload those videos before the expiration date.

  • If you upload new videos using the expired song after the expiration date, your videos may get copyright claims.

Example:
If the label says:
“This song has expired and cannot be used after Jun 8, 2025”

  • Videos uploaded on or before June 8, 2025 with this song are fine.

  • Videos uploaded after June 8, 2025 with this song could get claimed.

How will I know if a song I’ve used is expiring?

We’ll send you an email notification to keep you informed about any songs you’ve downloaded that are being removed from Thematic.

Check your song expiration dates and see your expired songs on the Expired Songs button on your ✅ Licenses & Downloads page.
